My journey to the world of mental health has been quite unique! Having served for almost ten years in public safety as a firefighter and paramedic in Longmont, Colorado, my knowledge and lived experience as a first responder fuels my passion for mental health especially those with trauma histories. During my career of fire and EMS, I have been a member of the Boulder County Regional Hazmat Team, Boulder County Tox Medic Program, EMS educator and FI, and wildland firefighter.
I was encouraged early on in my career to establish some sort of "back up" plan. Being a new firefighter, I of course thought this was silly. A wise mentor of mine recognized my gift of caring and walking beside others. He encouraged me to continue my education and keep an open mind to what my path may unfold to be. Fast forward to now, I
I was encouraged early on in my career to establish some sort of "back up" plan. Being a new firefighter, I of course thought this was silly. A wise mentor of mine recognized my gift of caring and walking beside others. He encouraged me to continue my education and keep an open mind to what my path may unfold to be. Fast forward to now, I am working full time in the mental health field seeing mostly first responders, military, and their family members. It is such a blessing to me to work within my community as a different kind of helper.
